Photo News: Akpabio Pledges More Rural Electricity and Water Projects

...inaugurates 12 Community projects in Eket

The Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Chief Godswill Akpabio, has assured the people of the state that in 2010, his administration will place emphasis on the construction of mini water and electrification projects in all the local government areas in the state.

He said that previously, the administration had paid more premium on the construction of classroom blocks and rehabilitation of health centers, but insisted that more effort shall now go into ensuring the availability of electricity and water for people in the rural areas.

Governor Akpabio, who was represented by the commissioner for local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Paul Ekpo, disclosed this during the inauguration of several projects executed under the Interministerial Direct Labour Coordinating Committee in Eket yesterday.

Amongst the projects numbering 12 were rehabilitation of principal’s quarters at Nduo Eduo High School, construction of classroom block at Government Primary School, Idung Iniang, Mini Water project at Idung Nsedem, Rehabilitation of classroom blocks and Hall at Primary school, Hospital road, Rehabilitation of main block at Health center, Efoi, Electrification at Asang Community and Rehabilitation of Court hall at Chief Magistrate Court.

According to Chief Akpabio, the commissioned projects were aimed at bettering the lives of the people of the local government area.

Receiving the Governor and his entourage at his palace, the Paramount Ruler of Eket, Edidem (Dr.) T.P Enodien, stated that the inter-ministerial projects commissioning is a form of harvest, which is a thing of joy, adding that Akwa Ibom State stands out because executed and completed projects are always commissioned. He concluded that the people of the LGA are soliciting support for the Governor’s re-election in 2011.

A grand reception was held at the Eket Local government secretariat where the chairman of the LGA, Barr. Emmanuel Udo thanked the Governor, adding that he has given Eket a “face-lift” and has also bridged the gap between promise and fulfillment.

Barr.Udo reiterated the resolve of the people of the area to support Governor Akpabio in the 2011 Governorship elections and invited the governor to visit the LGA again in order to commission the remaining projects.

The ongoing commissioning exercise which has so far seen four projects in Eastern Obolo and eight projects inaugurated in Obot Akara local government. A total of 648 projects are billed for commissioning under the current scheme.
